Hi, I’m Nadia — thanks for signing up!

I’m a journalist who moved to New York on the hope and the dream of interviewing Meryl Streep over lunch one day. Along the way, I found running—a sport I used to detest, and now can’t stop talking about. I use it to anchor much of my life, as a freelance journalist and editor. And while I did indeed get to meet and interview Ms Streep, coming to New York has been far more fulfilling for the things its given me beyond being called Ms Streep’s new best friend (although that does count among my finest achievements!).

What’s The Rundown?

It started as a video series documenting my love of running by creating routes made out of famous movie locations or sites of cultural significance. Then I created this newsletter to share more about the videos and also short reviews of things I recommend, from film to TV, music to books, art shows and more. During Covid, it became a daily list of entertainment options that provided moments of levity during a troubling time.

The Rundown, as it looks and feels now, is shifting once again, into a place where I may not be giving you a list, per se, but it’s still a rundown, a reason, to share the things that are worth talking about — or watching, reading, and listening to — from my vantage point, as a South African living in Brooklyn (and now with a family of my own). Expect little notes on New York, on good films, music, and the arts, along with a dash of my unwavering enthusiasm and curiosity for this incomparable city and, indeed, this life.
